Idle No More: Sovereignty Summer Events

It’s a busy weekend for the Idle No More movement as we hit the midway point in our Sovereignty Summer (#SovSummer).

ININIW ASKI QUEST 2013

To begin with there’s the ININIW ASKI QUEST 2013 arrival at the Forks in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

This journey began on July 6, 2013 at  Pimicikamak (Cross Lake) and after trekking a total 890 kilometers (or almost 555 miles), the walkers plan to arrive around 1:00 PM CST on Friday (July 26).

This is a 2-day event planned for today and tomorrow.  The event supports the vision to protect the environment with a special focus on waterways.  It’s going to be 2 days of awareness teachings with information booths and more, with a free concert on Saturday night.

So here’s the pertinent information for those who plan on attending this event.

WHEN:  Friday, July 26, 2013 starting at 1:00 PM and going through to Saturday, July 27
WHERE:  The Forks in Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada)

WATER IS SACRED

For those of you who aren’t able to make into to Winnipeg, there’s still lots to do on Saturday, July 27 with these WATER IS SACRED events (click on the appropriate link for more information on each location):

Kelowna, BC;
Vancouver, WA;
Los Angeles, CA; and
Venice, CA.

Speak up at this peaceful demonstration if you object to the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline.  If you’re not sure if you object to this pipeline extension, click on THIS LINK to learn more about this proposed pipeline extension that will cross over six American states as well as a number of major rivers including the Missouri, the Yellowstone, and the Red Rivers.

UNITY RIDE

Still looking for something important to support? How about the Unity Ride?

Do you remember when you head that the First Nation Dakota People from Manitoba (Canada) were journeying to Woodstock and the Hudson Valley this summer?  This sacred journey is one of peace and reconciliation.

Imagine being part of an event with more than 200 canoes and kayaks (led by Hickory Edwards of the Onondaga Nation) joining with the Unity Ride horses (led by Chief Gus High Eagle of the western Dakota Nation) as they continue towards New York City before continuing to Washington D.C.!
