LETTER TO FIRST NATIONS
FROM ONTARIO REGIONAL CHIEF

RE: SAFETY ON JAN 16th

January 15, 2013

Dear Chief & Council:

As many of you are aware January 16th has been identified as a National Day of Action for First Nations across Canada.  I understand that many First Nations in Ontario are planning events within their communities or are planning joint events with other communities on January 16, 2013.

I encourage all those planning events to please exercise the utmost care and caution. If you have not already contacted the local police service in your area I urge you to do so and inform them of your plans. This will ensure that appropriate parties are informed of what will take place and will enable your communities and citizens to go out and exercise their right to make their voices heard in a safe environment.  It is important that we put forward our message in a strong, safe and peaceful manner.

I want to thank all First Nation citizens that have demonstrated their commitment to bringing greater awareness to the plight of our people and for acting to protect our rights.  You have my full support and I look forward to continuing to work together to achieve our shared goals.

Meegwetch,

CHIEFS OF ONTARIO

Stan Beardy,

Regional Chief
